I began my family history journey about 15 years ago. I became curious about my mothers family initially because she was adopted by her step-father and never knew her biological father. I thought I would take it upon myself to figure out this mystery. I knew it wasn't going to be an easy task since my mother, grandmother and great-grandmother had all passed away several years before. The only ones whom I could ask were my dad (who had years ago questioned my grandmother) and my grandmother's two sisters. Now, 15 years later, I am no closer to finding him than I was way back then. It has been a very frustrating journey for me. I put it down several times then picked it back up again, put it down then picked it up again. In between the search I have found tons of generations of family on both my mother's maternal side and my dad's family. I have a huge four drawer filing cabinet full of research including all my husbands family, not to mention finding lost family members and compiling genealogy folders for several other people not even related to me. So, my burning question is this: WHY is it so HARD to find ONE person in history???
When it comes right down to it, all I have is a file full of "clues" and a last name......Carter. I have decided after having laid it aside for several years to once again persue this unknown grandfather. Who knows, maybe I'll nail it this time around. Wish me luck!!!
